On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles’ (in)famous War of the Worlds radio broadcast was presented on the Mercury Theater on the Air program (of which Welles was a co-creator).
A couple of years later, Welles got a chance to meet the War of the Worlds author himself, H.G. Wells (who was 74 years old at the time). Below you’ll find a clip of a short conversation between the two men broadcast on October 28, 1940. They talked about Welles’ WotW broadcast, other writings by Wells, and very briefly about the upcoming film Citizen Kane.
It’s amazing to be able to hear the voice of the Father of Science Fiction, Mr. Wells himself, talking about a book that was written over a century ago. Very cool.
